Our History

House of the Roses Volunteer Dance Company, Inc. continues the work of its model program, House of the Roses, founded in 2003 by veteran Broadway performer and choreographer, Jeff Shade.  Since its founding, the organization has conducted weekly on-site dance workshops with, and provided performance opportunities for, more than 600 homeless and at-risk youth throughout New York City.  Notably, the children have performed at HOTR's five annual spring concerts at Peter Norton Symphony Space (2004) and the Miller Theatre at Columbia University (2005-2009) as well as at more than a dozen community events.  Through these performances, the children have had the opportunity to interact and share the stage with Broadway performers and technicians as well as members of local dance organizations.

In December 2005, the program was officially incorporated as a non-profit organization and received 501(c)(3) status in March 2006.  Under the leadership of the program's founding volunteers, HOTR continues to realize its mission to offer positive reinforcement and creative encouragement through dance to children in need.
